THE BLESSINGS AND BARAKAH OF RECITING "BISMILLAH"

ﺑﺴﻢ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﺍﻟﺮﺣﻤﻦ ﺍﻟﺮﺣﻴﻢ
Bismillah (h)ir-Rahman (n)ir-
Raheem.
In The Name Of ALLAH, The (Most)
Gracious, The (Most) Merciful.
The very first revelation to Our
Beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace
and blessings be upon him) was:
ﺍﻗْﺮَﺃْ ﺑِﺎﺳْﻢِ ﺭَﺑِّﻚَ ﺍﻟَّﺬِﻯ ﺧَﻠَﻖَ
Iqra/ bi-ismi rabbika allathee khalaq
(Read/Proclaim/Recite in the Name
of your Lord who has created).
Thus the very first command which
Allah gave to Prophet Muhammad
(Peace be upon him) via Angel
Jibraeel (upon him be peace) was to
“Recite or Read or Proclaim in the
name of the Creator”
When Prophet Muhammad (peace be
upon him) conveyed this or any
message from Allah to the people, he
began it in the name of Allah. i.e.
‘Bismillah’
In the Holy Quran We read the Verse
114 times. It appears at the head of
all the Surahs except for Surah Al-
Tawba where “Bismillah hir Rahman
nir Raheem” is not recited.
Below are few hadiths of the virtues
of saying Bismillah:
• GAINING THE BLESSINGS OF ALLAH IN
EVERY ACTION WE DO
As the Prophet (peace be upon him)
said, “Every significant act in which
Bismillah is not mentioned is cut off
(from blessings).” [Nasa’i]
Therefore, when we do something in
the name of Allah it will be
accompanied by the blessings of Allah.
• DEFEATING THE SHAYTAN (SATAN)
Imam Ahmad recorded in his Musnad,
that a person who was riding behind
the Prophet (peace be upon him) said,
“The Prophet’s animal tripped, so I
said, ‘cursed shaytan.’ The Prophet
(peace be upon him) said, “Do not
say, ‘cursed shaytan,’ for if you say
these words, Shaytan becomes
arrogant and says, ‘With my strength
I made him fall.’ When you say,
‘Bismillah,’ shaytan will become as
small as a fly.” (Ahmad)
• PROTECTION WHEN ENTERING THE
HOUSE
Jabir (May Allah be pleased with him)
said: I heard the Messenger of Allah
(peace be upon him) saying, “If a
person mentions the Name of Allah
upon entering his house or eating,
satan says, addressing his followers:
`You will find nowhere to spend the
night and no dinner.’ But if he
enters without mentioning the Name
of Allah, Satan says [to his followers]
; ‘You have found [a place] to spend
the night in; and if he does not
mention the Name of Allah at the
time of eating, Satan says: `You have
found [a place] to spend the night in
as well as food.” [Muslim]
• PROTECTION WHEN LEAVING THE
HOUSE
The Messenger Of Allah (peace be
upon him) said, “If any one of you,
when leaving the house says, ‘In the
name of Allah, I trust in Allah, there
is no power and might except from
Allah,’ your needs shall be fulfilled,
you shall be saved from difficulties
and hardships. shaytan hearing these
words leaves him.” [Trimidhi]
• RELIEF FROM PHYSICAL PAIN
Uthman bin Abu al-As Al-Thaqafi
(May Allah be pleased with him)
reported that he made a complaint of
pain to Allah’s Messenger (peace be
upon him) that he felt in his body at
the time he had become Muslim.
Thereupon Allah’s Messenger (peace
be upon him) said:
“Place your hand at the place where
you feel pain in your body and say,
‘In the name of Allah,’ three times
and seven times ‘I seek refuge with
Allah and with His Power from the evil
that I find and that I
fear.’” [Muslim]
• BEFORE EATING
Narrated By ‘Umar bin Abi Salama: I
was a boy under the care of Allah’s
Apostle and my hand used to go
around the dish while I was eating. So
Allah’s Apostle said to me, ‘O boy!
Mention the Name of Allah and eat
with your right hand, and eat of the
dish what is nearer to you.” Since
then I have applied those instructions
when eating.
[Sahih Bukhari, #288]
Umar bin Abi Salamah related that
Allah's Messenger (peace be upon
him) said, “Say ‘Bismillah’, eat with
your right hand and eat what is near
you.” [Muslim]
Umaiyyah bin Makhshi (May Allah be
pleased with him) reported:
Messenger of Allah (peace be upon
him) was sitting while a man was
eating food. That man did not
mention the Name of Allah (before
commencing to eat) till only a morsel
of food was left. When he raised it to
his mouth, he said: “Bismillah
awwalahu wa akhirahu (With the
Name of Allah, in the beginning and
in the end).” Messenger of Allah
(peace be upon him) smiled at this
and said, “Satan had been eating
with him but when he mentioned the
Name of Allah, Satan vomited all that
was in his stomach.”
[Abu Dawud and An-Nasa’i].
• BEFORE MAKING ABLUTION (WUDU)
Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah’s
Messenger (Peace and Blessings of
Allah be upon him) said, “There is no
Wudu (ablution) for one who does not
mention Allah’s Name upon it.
(Reported by Ahmad)
• BEFORE GOING TO BED WITH ONES
WIFE
Narrated By Ibn Abbas: The Prophet
said, “If anyone of you, when having
sexual intercourse with his wife, says:
“Bismillah, Allahumma jannibni-Sh-
Shaitan wa jannib-ish-Shaitan ma
razaqtana”, and if it is destined
that they should have a child, then
Satan will never be able to harm
him.” [Sahih Bukhari, Vol 7, Book 62,
Hadith #094]
• IMMEDIATE REMINDER AND INTENTION
CHECK
If we can make this a habit before
every act, then we can check our
intentions before we do something and
can ensure that we avoid sinful deeds
as we are unlikely to lie, cheat,
abuse, or harm someone in the name
of Allah. The verse acts as an
immediate reminder.
Subhan'Allah, how beautiful and easy
Allah has made our faith for us.
When we say Bismillah before
anything we do, we are invoking the
name of Allah on that particular
activity or task, not only will that
activity be blessed but shaytaan
cannot take part in it!
So brothers and sisters always say
Bismillah before anything you do!
In'Shaa'Allah you will see blessings in
it.
Spread the knowledge so it will be
Sadqa-e-Jaaria (everlasting
charity) for you and for me...
In'Shaa'Allah.
The Messenger of Allah (peace be
upon him) said: “Whoever directs
someone to a good, then he will have
the reward equal to the doer of the
action.” [Muslim 1893]
