What is Hijab?
Before we go any further, let us take a
moment to know the meaning of the
word Hijab itself. Hijab comes from the
root word of 'Hajaba' which means to
cover from view or to conceal.
However, need to be highlighted here
is that, not every covering could be
considered as Hijab.
And so, what kind of covering is being
considered as Hijab?
It is the covering as appeared behind a
curtain as how mentioned by Ibn
Khaldun in The Muqadimmah. Please
take a moment to just imagine, what is
the appearance of an object when
there is a curtain covering it. The
object will then unable to be seen
through.
Therefore, Hijab carry the meaning of
to cover and to conceal from view to
the extend that you are unable to see
through.
